Why Diets Work?
All crash diets begin with a claim as to why the plan works: more protein, less protein, all the bacon you want, all the cabbage you want, more fruit, no fruit, only fruit before noon – whatever. But the real secret behind all these diets is not the special combinations of foods or the magical qualities of one particular food, or even the right food for your body type. The “secret” is simply the restriction of food. That’s right! Diets work because you’re consuming fewer calories than you burn and your body is in a caloric deficit. It’s cutting calories, and perhaps an increase in physical activity, that always results in weight loss. And that goes for all the diets, including all the biggies: Atkins, South Beach, The Zone, Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig – they are all about the calories.
